Blog / Private Health Insurers

Did you know that you may be able to claim a percentage (or sometimes all) of your acupuncture costs back if you are a member of a Private Health Insurers scheme? Each company’s policy will vary, but the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) has a full list of current insurers and is happy to answer any queries.

Here are some of the more prominent insurers:

Aviva, AXA PPP, Benenden, Bupa, Exeter Family Friendly, General & Medical Healthcare, Healthshield, Medicash, Pru Health (now Vitality Health), Simply Health, Westfield.

Some of the policies require a GP-referral, however, others are happy with self-referral. Most require the acupuncturist to be registered with a professional body such as BAcC or BMAS (British Medical Acupuncture Society).

Usually you just need to send off your receipt after a treatment and you will be reimbursed by the insurers. Nicola always provides a stamped receipt after payment but please let her know if you wish to claim, as some insurers require the practitioner to register with them first.
